The debate on curing vitiligo is still alive for the simple reason being – its causes are not yet strongly validated. The skin condition propels many misconceptions about its origins and whether it is contagious, thus attacking the patient ‘s self esteem. The person yearns for an immediate cure to overcome the mental trauma of social denial. Research is on for ages now and still we haven’t found a guaranteed cure to it. One thing is sure though , it is not contagious.
Vitiligo or Leucoderma is not a dreaded disease as it is made out to be. It is a non contagious skin condition where some segments of the skin fail to pigment. This causes emergence of depigmented patches. The patches look generally white or light pink and are in sharp contrast with the skin color of the person.
